About: Like Some Machine:
"I wrote “Like Some Machine” after a brief stint as a temp dishwasher at Google’s Venice Headquarters, when I first moved to Los Angeles. It was both the strangest and most labor intensive dishwashing job I’ve ever done, an extremely high volume kitchen with a constant stream of dishes piling up all day. I got the hang of it after a day or two and one of the regular dishwashers, a wild haired bandanna wearing veteran patted me on the back and paid me a rare compliment. “That’s it” he said, smiling, “like a machine”.
Though grateful for the compliment, I couldn’t help thinking what a strange one it was, to be commended as machine-like. As I walked the halls cleaning up bowls from the cereal stations of our nation's best and brightest and perhaps richest 24 year olds, I’d pass strange rooms of high tech surveillance projects. I began to daydream, thinking about Skynet, the fictional corporation that makes the robots in the Terminator movies. I'd never thought about the dishwashers or janitors at Skynet. Did the engineers responsible for the robot apocalypse have breakfast cereal bars stations and a climbing wall? Kombucha on tap and company surfboards?
My daydreams kept me occupied for the few weeks I worked the job, as I wondered which of the busboys would be most likely to be part of a secret resistance to our eventual robot rulers. I imagined when the singularity finally hit, the kindest one would whisper the secret words to me and we’d escape to a mountain compound and watch the old world fall."

This is a demo preview of a new project I'm working on. It's slow music made by processing accordion sounds. Take a walk with it if you like. More coming soon...

"Like Some Machine" - I played accordion and keyboards and sang and jangled silverware in front of a microphone
Theo Karon recorded all that and somehow shaped it into music, which I'm very grateful for.
Sarah Register mastered it.
